A Few of My Favourite Things!!
A murder of Crows alerted me to the presence of a predator. After scanning the trees below the crows, I saw the cause of their distress. A Great Horned Owl was just trying to sleep. Great Horned Owls will kill crows, but American Crows will also kill Great Horned Owlets. They have a mutual dislike. Typically owls and other raptors will fly away when being mobbed by crows so I was very surprised when the crows gave up and left the owl alone.
Osprey have been in the area for a few weeks. I recently learned that a pair are nesting again locally! Deryl captured this image off the west tip of Canatara Park.
Two Song Sparrows feasting on bugs.
Warbler migration has begun! Above a Yellow-rumped Warbler sports his spring plumage!
A Carolina Wren with fluffed feathers on a windy day!
Hermit Thrushes are plentiful in Canatara.
Two Mourning Doves
I heard this Red-bellied Woodpecker calling for a few minutes before I was able to locate it. He appears to have stuffed himself into a tree cavity. Once the leaves fully open on the tree, it will be a well-hidden nesting spot!
