 Down the St. Clair River!

Saturday was a beautiful day for a drive down river and the Bald Eagles didn't disappoint! Eagles have been congregating around the open water north of Corunna.

A pair of Bald Eagles chased each other for several minutes before landing in a nearby tree. Notice the stick in the talons of the left bird. We wonder if stick carrying is part of a courtship ritual?

Redhead on a rock. The red colour isn't always noticeable, but it was on this sunny day!

The Mute Swans at Guthrie Park have been getting a lot of attention. They make nice subjects for photos, but are an invasive species. Mute Swans have enormous appetites. One study found they ate up to 8 pounds a day of submerged aquatic vegetation, removing food and habitat for other species faster than the grasses could recover. (The Cornell Lab, All About Birds)

A fish has been snagged by its dorsal fin. The other swans
are on standby in case the squirming food is dropped.

We also saw a few rafts of ducks including this small group of Canvasbacks.
