6-Legged Things, March 19th!
Temperatures on Wednesday were a sign of the warmer weather to come! I found 3 Eastern Commas in the afternoon in Canatara. Two of them were having a race, zigging and zagging inches above the forest floor. One stopped for a photo!
Two Mourning Cloaks made an appearance. This individual was in much better condition than the other one.
Lots of tiny pollinators we’re enjoying the nectar in a flowering bush.
Not all flowers are brightly coloured. The green flowers on this (non native) Small-leaved Box bush are fragrant and attract pollinators.
A couple of Asian Lady Beetles were out for a stroll.
Underside of an Asian Lady Beetle (in case you've ever wondered 😉)
Box Elder Bug
Northern Paper Wasps make nests using regurgitated pulp scraped off trees, wood frames, etc. Colonies are usually small and they generally leave humans alone unless their nest is disturbed.
