Downriver Duck Tour, Jan. 5th.
A Ring-billed Gull was one of many birds that took to the air when a Bald Eagle soared past at Guthrie Park.
Great Blue Heron hunkered down on a boom, hoping for a meal in Talfourd Creek.
One of our goals for the down river tour was to find the very handsome male Northern Pintail by the old Sombra Ferry dock. The white line down the head and neck made it easy to spot amongst the Mallards.
Canvasback
Unharvested apples provided some colour to the day.
A park just south of Port Lambton displayed some metal art work which included caterpillars and a Ladybird beetle; insects I didn't expect to see again until the spring! 😏
A "Rebar" caterpillar!
From the St. Clair Parkway, we observed a dozen Gadwall along the edge of Walpole Island. Their black "bums" helped to identify them from a distance.
We also found our first Pied-billed Grebe of the year. In the same location, Mute Swans, Hooded Mergansers and an American Wigeon were visible.
