Yay For Sunshine!

Humans aren't the only ones happy to see the sun. Our feathered friends seem to be making the most of the sunshine as well! A Carolina Wren popped up to have a look at the surroundings.

Northern Cardinal, basking in the sunshine!

Red-bellied Woodpecker checking for food in the dead wood.

White-throated Sparrow peaking out from a Spruce Tree.

Long-tailed Duck paddling close to shore.

Herring Gull

On January 2nd, I watched a pair of Black-capped Chickadees participate in classic nest building activity. One bird removed wood from a tree cavity. Immediately upon its departure, the second bird took over the duties. The  Chickadee pair continued this behaviour, flying to and from the hole for over 5 minutes. Hopefully temperatures will return to normal levels soon to reduce the chance of birds trying to nest in the winter. Two Canada Goose goslings hatched before Christmas in London, ON; Not a good time of year to be a wild baby!
