More Things Soon To Get Wings:

The Smeared Dagger Moth (or Smartweed Moth) is a beautiful caterpillar covered with hairs and bristles that can cause pain, allergy and swelling in some individuals if handled. It is best to heed the "colour warnings" on such caterpillars and look, but not touch! I found 3 of these caterpillars on one plant at Rondeau Provincial Park.

Another Smeared Dagger Moth caterpillar. There is a lot of colour variability in the species.

A Pug Moth caterpillar: The larvae of many members of this family feed on the flowers and seeds of their food plants, rather than on the leaves.

An Eastern Tiger Swallowtail caterpillar on a silk mattress. The mattress provides "grip" on an otherwise slippery leaf. I recently witnessed this caterpillar remain secure on the leaf, on a particularly windy day.

Fall is in the air! Many flower heads have gone to seed including Prickly Lettuce.
